Bach for Marimba

Ms. Weaver has always loved the music of J. S. Bach, whether listening to it or performing it herself.  She has studied Baroque performance practice and interpretation, in order to adapt this interpretation to modern marimba practice. She plans to do a comparative study of other transcriptions and make her own informed interpretation of ornamentation of Bach's solo suites. Weaver has also explored collaborations of Bach, including duos of marimba/vibraphone and marimba/dance. As a culmination of her research, Weaver will compile a pedagogical guidebook to ornamentation in Bach's lute suites.

On December 3, 2017, Ms. Weaver presented an all-Bach recital, consisting of the E minor lute suite BWV 996 on marimba, the G major harpsichord suite BWV 816 on marimba and vibraphone, and selections from the C minor cello suite BWV 1011 for marimba and dancers.  The following video is a live recording of that performance of the harpsichord suite, arranged for vibraphone and marimba.
